This site republishes a sacred text. That comes with duties, which are:
The text is never altered
- The English translation and the Pali are published as SuttaCentral publishes them, with no paraphrase, modernisation or omission. The only mechanical change is joining a verse's line segments into one passage.
- Chapter numbering follows the traditional 26 chapters (vaggas) and 423 verses of the Pali canon's Khuddaka Nikāya.
Theme tags are checked, not invented
- Each verse's theme tags (anger, mind, craving…) come from a keyword mapping over the translation, reviewed against the Pali chapter structure. Tags group verses for browsing; they are our index, not doctrine, and no verse is presented as being "about" a topic in an authoritative sense.
- The verse finder matches words you type against those tags and the verse text only. It makes no claim about what a verse "means" for your situation.
Sourcing
- Every text page names its translation and licence; the full list is on the sources page.
- Photographs are open-licensed works credited in the footer and on the sources page. They show the world around the text — temples, manuscripts, practice — and are never presented as anything else.
Corrections
If you find a verse mislabelled, mistyped, or wrongly numbered, write to us via the contact page. Corrections to text or tagging are applied at the source of truth (the data file) and republished.
